Major and Minor
A major is a student's primary field of study requiring the most coursework; a minor is a secondary concentration requiring fewer courses.
The major-minor system allows undergraduate students to specialize in a primary field (major) while exploring a secondary area of interest (minor). A typical major requires 30-60 credit hours of coursework in the discipline, while a minor requires 15-24 credits. Some universities allow double majors, where students complete full requirements for two fields. The system is standard in the US, UK, and Australian university systems, providing structured flexibility to combine complementary areas of study like Computer Science (major) and Business (minor).
