Honors programs provide academically gifted students with an enhanced educational experience within a larger university, offering smaller seminar-style classes, dedicated faculty mentors, priority course registration, and often special housing. Students typically must maintain a minimum GPA (usually 3.5+) to remain in the program and complete an honors thesis or capstone project. Honors programs at large public universities aim to provide a liberal-arts-college experience within the resources and diversity of a major research institution.
