Letter of Recommendation
A written endorsement from a teacher, professor, or mentor that evaluates an applicant's academic abilities, character, and potential for success at a university.
Letters of recommendation provide third-party validation of an applicant's academic abilities, intellectual curiosity, and personal character. Most selective US universities require two teacher recommendations and one counselor letter. Strong letters include specific anecdotes and detailed observations rather than generic praise. For graduate school applications, recommendation letters from research supervisors who can speak to a candidate's scholarly potential carry particular weight.
