Tuition Waiver
A benefit that eliminates or reduces tuition charges, commonly offered to graduate students with assistantships, employees of the university, or qualifying international students.
A tuition waiver eliminates or reduces tuition charges for qualifying students, most commonly graduate students holding teaching or research assistantships. Many universities automatically waive tuition for funded PhD students, making doctoral education effectively free (with additional stipend income). Tuition waivers are also available to university employees and their dependents at many institutions, and some states offer tuition waivers for specific populations such as veterans, foster youth, or senior citizens. Unlike scholarships, tuition waivers are typically applied as an institutional discount rather than a separate financial award.
