ECTS

European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System — a standardized system for comparing student workload across European universities. One year equals 60 ECTS credits.

The European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS) is the standard credit framework used across the European Higher Education Area (EHEA), enabling credit recognition and student mobility between universities in 49 countries. One ECTS credit represents 25-30 hours of student workload, and a full academic year equals 60 ECTS (approximately 1,500-1,800 hours). A bachelor's degree requires 180-240 ECTS and a master's degree requires 60-120 ECTS. ECTS was developed as part of the Bologna Process and has become the universal currency for academic credit in Europe.
