Degree Recognition

The process by which a university degree earned in one country is accepted as valid in another.

Degree recognition (or credential evaluation) is the process of establishing the equivalency of academic qualifications across different national education systems. Organizations like WES (World Education Services), UK ENIC, and anabin (Germany) evaluate foreign credentials for employment, further study, or professional licensing. The Lisbon Recognition Convention (1997) provides a framework for degree recognition across 55 countries. Recognition challenges arise from differing degree lengths, grading systems, and program structures — a 3-year European bachelor's may not be considered equivalent to a 4-year US bachelor's in some contexts.
