Higher Education in Egypt
Egypt has one of the largest higher education systems in Africa and the Arab world, with 63 public and private universities enrolling over three million students. Cairo University, founded in 1908, and Al-Azhar University, one of the world's oldest academic institutions (established 970 CE), are the most prominent. The Supreme Council of Universities oversees public institutions, and Arabic is the primary language of instruction with English used extensively in STEM faculties.
