Higher Education in Iceland

Iceland's small higher education system comprises 10 institutions serving approximately 20,000 students. The University of Iceland, founded in 1911, is the largest institution and primary research university. Instruction is in Icelandic, with English increasingly used in graduate programs. Iceland participates fully in the European Higher Education Area and Erasmus+, and tuition is minimal or free at public institutions.
