Higher Education in Kazakhstan
Kazakhstan has restructured its higher education substantially since independence, implementing a three-cycle Bologna-aligned system and establishing the Independent Agency for Quality Assurance in Education (IQAA). The country hosts around 130 universities, with Nazarbayev University — modelled on Western research universities and offering English-medium instruction — serving as the flagship reform institution. Al-Farabi Kazakh National University is the largest public institution. The government actively funds outbound scholarships through the Bolashak program to develop graduate talent abroad.
