Higher Education in Laos
Laos has a small higher education sector overseen by the Ministry of Education and Sports. The National University of Laos, established in 1996 through the merger of six institutions, is the country's primary public university. Private universities have expanded since the 2000s to meet growing demand. Lao is the medium of instruction, with some technical and postgraduate programs taught in English or Thai.
