Mexico's higher education system is one of Latin America's largest, encompassing over 5,000 institutions — public and private — governed by the Secretariat of Public Education (SEP). The National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), with over 350,000 students, is one of the world's largest universities and leads Latin American rankings. The National Polytechnic Institute (IPN) and Tecnológico de Monterrey are prominent in technology and business. The National Evaluation Centre (CENEVAL) administers standardised assessments. Instruction is in Spanish.
