Higher Education in Nepal
Nepal's higher education is coordinated by Tribhuvan University, the country's oldest and largest, along with several newer public and private universities established since the 1980s. The University Grants Commission (UGC) oversees quality assurance and funding allocation across approximately 34 universities and affiliated campuses. Instruction is mainly in Nepali and English; significant challenges include chronic underfunding, overcrowded campuses, and high rates of student emigration to India and beyond for advanced study.
