Higher Education in Qatar
Qatar has built a distinctive higher education model centred on Education City in Doha, where international branch campuses of Georgetown, Cornell, Carnegie Mellon, and several other leading universities operate alongside Qatar University, the national flagship founded in 1973. The Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF) and the Ministry of Education and Higher Education oversee quality and research investment; instruction is in Arabic at Qatar University and predominantly in English at branch campuses. Heavy state investment through Qatar Foundation has transformed the sector since the early 2000s, prioritising STEM, business, and health sciences aligned with national development goals.
