Higher Education in Serbia
Serbia's higher education is structured around public universities, led by the University of Belgrade (founded 1808, one of Southeast Europe's oldest), and a growing private sector, regulated by the Commission for Accreditation and Quality Assurance (KAPK). The system is aligned with the Bologna Process, and Serbia participates in the ERASMUS+ programme and European research networks. Instruction is primarily in Serbian, with some programmes offered in English; the sector faces ongoing challenges around brain drain, as highly qualified graduates emigrate to Western Europe in significant numbers.
