Higher Education in Saudi Arabia
Saudi Arabia has invested heavily in higher education since the 1970s, building a network of more than 30 public universities including King Abdulaziz University, King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals, and KAUST (King Abdullah University of Science and Technology, established 2009), the country's flagship research institution. The Ministry of Education and the National Commission for Academic Accreditation and Assessment (NCAAA) oversee quality; instruction is in Arabic at most public universities, with English used in sciences and at KAUST. Vision 2030 has prioritised research commercialisation, international partnerships, women's access β women now constitute the majority of university students β and reducing dependence on foreign expertise.
