Higher Education in Sweden
Sweden's higher education system comprises 54 institutions including universities and university colleges, governed by the Swedish Higher Education Authority (UKΓ) and characterised by tuition-free education for EU/EEA students. Research-intensive universities include Lund, Uppsala (founded 1477, the Nordic region's oldest), Stockholm, and the KTH Royal Institute of Technology. Sweden's system emphasises independent critical thinking and has a high rate of internationally co-authored research publications.
