Higher Education in Sierra Leone

Sierra Leone's higher education is led by Fourah Bay College (FBC) at the University of Sierra Leone, founded in 1827 and the oldest university in sub-Saharan Africa. The Tertiary Education Commission (TEC) oversees accreditation and quality assurance across the country's public and private institutions. Instruction is in English; the sector continues to recover from the devastation of the 1991–2002 civil war and the 2014–2016 Ebola crisis, which severely disrupted university operations and faculty retention.
