Higher Education in Senegal
Senegal's higher education system, conducted primarily in French, is anchored by Cheikh Anta Diop University in Dakar (UCAD, founded 1957), the largest university in French-speaking West Africa. The Conseil Africain et Malgache pour l'Enseignement Supérieur (CAMES) provides regional accreditation standards, while the Ministry of Higher Education oversees national policy. Rapid population growth and limited university capacity have created severe overcrowding at UCAD, prompting the government to expand regional universities and private institutions as part of a 2013 higher education reform.
