Higher Education in Somalia
Somalia's higher education sector has grown significantly since the partial restoration of stability following the civil war, with over 50 private universities now operating — mostly in Mogadishu — alongside the reconstituted Somali National University (SNU). The Ministry of Education, Culture and Higher Education has worked with international partners including UNESCO to restore accreditation frameworks, but formal quality assurance capacity remains limited. Instruction is primarily in Somali and Arabic, with some English-medium programmes; Somaliland in the north operates a separate and somewhat more stable system under its own regional administration.
