203 universities
Higher Education in Thailand
Thailand's higher education system encompasses around 203 institutions across public universities, Rajabhat universities (originally teacher-training colleges), Rajamangala universities of technology, and private institutions, all overseen by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI). Chulalongkorn University (1917), Mahidol University, and Kasetsart University are the leading research institutions. Instruction is mainly in Thai, and the system has expanded access aggressively since the 1970s while reforms focus on improving research quality and international competitiveness.
